Debra Nystrom is a writer of both prose and poetry. Her four poetry collections are Night Sky Frequencies, New and Selected Poems; Bad River Road; Torn Sky and A Quarter Turn. Her nonfiction, fiction and poetry have appeared in numerous magazines, including The New Yorker, Ploughshares, Slate, The Kenyon Review, Narrative, Georgia Review, Yale Review, Harvard Review and many other journals and anthologies. Debra is a recipient of the James Dickey Award from Five Points, Virginia Quarterly Review’s Balch Award, Shenandoah’s Boatwright Prize, The Virginia Prize for Poetry, the Shepard Visiting Writer Award from the University of Wyoming, the Heart/Borders Prize, a Best American Poetry selection, a Narrative “Story of the Week” selection, three Poetry Foundation “American Life in Poetry” features and fellowships from The Virginia Commission for the Arts and The Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. She teaches in the MFA Program at The University of Virginia. She is working on a memoir.
